Gatebil Mantorp Park
Following some recent health issues, I’ve been out of action for the last few weeks. On the plus side, I’ve a couple of interesting shoots and stories to share with you. After the Bavaria City Racing Dublin event, I took to the skies once more. Destination? Sweden for the annual Gatebil show at Mantorp Park, a couple of hours south of Stockholm. Unfortunately on arrival, I found my 5D MKII was unresponsive having presumably taken a knock somewhere in transit. My 5D2 has been a reliable work horse for the last three years so I was pretty bummed out by its loss. Thankfully, I had two other great cameras in reserve but it did put a bit of a downer on the event. The mayhem at Mantorp was even better than expected. Having experienced the Rudskogen event the year previous, I thought I would be prepared for the Swedish take on the popular event. I wasn’t. Gatebil Rudskogen Part Two
Part two of my Gatebil story concentrates on the track action. With drifting to extreme time attack, Gatebil was a no holds barred automotive extravaganza. Caution : This Story Contains Copious Amounts of Tyre Smoke.
Gatebil Rudskogen Part One
The last couple of months have been truly memorable. Not only as a photographer but also as a petrolhead. I’ve had the privilege of shooting some of the best events on the planet, events that only a year or two earlier were only but a dream. I know that things as good as this never last long, but I’m ensuring that I’m enjoying every last moment and having no regrets along the way. It’s not everyday you wake up in your dream job and I can’t thank the Speedhunters and Need for Speed teams enough for allowing me the privilege of working with them. This is the first of two parts from the Gatebil Rudskogen, an event which was held about two hours north of Oslo at the end of July. The word insanity doesn’t even come close to describing Gatebil. More images, as usual, after the jump …
Back to the Daily Grind …
It’s fair to say that the motorsport season is well underway once more and my poor blog is getting neglected once again. You can still keep up with me on Speedhunters or on Twitter if you really miss me that much. I’m also doing my best to keep my Flickr account up to date so be sure to check in for lots of photographs you won’t see anywhere else. Since I’m here I’ve put together a small selection of shots after the jump that should give you an idea of what I’ve been up to since I last posted here !
Modified Live // Time Attack // EDC – Brands Hatch
The day after JDM at Donny, I was south of London for the third round of the UK Time Attack Series which took place at the Brands Hatch venue in Kent. The particular loop they would be using would be the Indy Circuit, the shortest layout which provided a spectacular and comprehensive view of the event for all the spectators. The series has been incorporated into the Modified Live events, which also host a static show, a round of the European Drifting Championship and a series of demonstration runs from the Sumo Power GT1 GT-Rs to a rather drifty articulated truck. More after the jump …
Time Attack Round One, Oulton Park
I spent last weekend at Oulton Park, where I was present to cover the first round of the UK Time Attack Series. It was my first time shooting at Oulton and I found it a great venue to photograph at. The track was interesting with hills and crests, backdrop was varied, friendly staff and marshall’s all combined for a great experience. I shot the coverage for Speedhunters.com, where you can now find the entire story behind the weekend’s events. As usual, a full gallery of images can be found after the jump …
Before the drift, there was grip …
Between the drift action on Sunday, Mondello Park organised a ‘Track Versus Time Attack’ time attack to see which class would set the fastest time around Mondello’s national loop. Brendan Stone in the Trackday Performance Evo VI set fastest time of the day at 59.3 seconds, but the pace of the cars was astounding. Was interesting shooting grip as 90% of the track action I shoot is drift. I found that getting nice, clean sharp images is much easier compared to drifting as the cars move in a more predictable manner. I will definitely try get out for another round before the year is out ! More photos of the other competitors after the jump …
